Santander US Reshuffles Exec Suite, Taps Wennes as President & CEO

Santander Holdings and Santander Consumer USA Holdings have approved several senior management appointments. In the coming months, the following leadership changes will take effect, with all four senior executives reporting to Scott Powell, CEO of Santander US and SC:

Timothy Wennes will become president and chief executive officer of Santander Bank (SBNA). He joins SBNA from MUFG Union Bank in California. Wennes will succeed Duke Dayal, who was named CFO of Santander UK. 

Juan Carlos Alvarez will become Santander US and SBNA CFO. Alvarez currently serves as the CFO at SC, a role he has held since 2017. Alvarez will also succeed Dayal in his capacity as Santander US CFO.

Fahmi Karam, Santander Consumer’s head of Pricing and Analytics, will succeed Alvarez as CFO of SC. He will continue to lead the Pricing and Analytics group in addition to his new role.

Shawn Allgood, currently EVP at Chrysler Capital, will succeed Richard Morrin as head of Chrysler Capital and Auto Relationships at SC.

Kohn, Weinzelbaum Join Old Second Bank from MB Financial

Alan H. Kohn and Louis L. Weinzelbaum have joined Old Second National Bank. Both joined from MB Financial Bank, now Fifth Third Bank. Both will be located in the bank’s Chicago-Loop office. Kohn has been named group market president, senior managing director. Weinzelbaum has been named group market president, senior managing director.

Holsinger Joins Ares Management as Co-Head,Alternative Credit

Joel Holsinger has joined Ares Management’s Credit Group as co-head of Alternative Credit. Holsinger will serve on the Ares Management Committee and work alongside Keith Ashton as co-head of Alternative Credit to expand the firm’s global coverage of the $4 trillion alternative credit sector.


WFCF Names Regional ABL Leaders for U.S. Middle Market

Wells Fargo Capital Finance has named Jeremy Baker, Eric Baymiller, Dave Ellis and Peter Pugliese as its U.S. sales leadership team for the Middle Market Asset-Based Lending group. Led by Kevin Gillespie, head of Middle Market ABL, and Michael Marcolina, head of Middle Market National Originations, this unit houses specialized expertise dedicated to the nation’s middle market sectors: retail and consumer goods; manufacturing and distribution; government contractors; staffing; trucking and transportation; and business services.

Hadro to Retire as Byline Bank CCO

Tim Hadro retired as Byline Bank chief credit officer and was succeeded in that position by Owen Beacom. Hadro will remain an advisor with the company to assist in the transition. Beacom has been serving as the deputy chief credit officer. He joined Byline in May 2018 with the acquisition of First Evanston Bancorp.

White Oak Adds Chaudhry and Maitland to ABL Team

White Oak Commercial Finance hired Sudhir Chaudhry and Kevin Maitland as underwriters, further increasing the company’s originations presence across the U.S. Chaudhry joined White Oak’s Los Angeles office bringing nearly 25 years of structured finance and underwriting experience. Maitland joined White Oak in Boca Raton with more than 14 years of asset-based lending and commercial banking experience.

Santander Bank Adds Industry Veterans to ABL Team

Santander Bank has tapped Paul Cronin to lead its asset-based lending business in its Commercial Banking division. Arthur Pesavento will join the ABL group as senior vice president and business development officer. Cronin will be responsible for growing Santander’s ABL business and report to David Swoyer, Santander Bank’s head of Commercial Banking. Pesavento will be based in Chicago and report to Cronin.

Encina Adds Pardue to Business Development Team

Ken Pardue joined the Encina Business Credit business development team as a senior managing director. Pardue is a senior leveraged finance professional with more than 20 years of experience. He previously served in leadership roles at Marquette Business Credit, Hilco, and PNC Business Credit. 

Gutierrez Joins Fifth Third as Senior Commercial Banker

Jeremy Gutierrez has joined Fifth Third Bank as senior commercial banker, senior vice president for Central Ohio. Prior to Fifth Third Bank, Gutierrez served as the national group manager for the dedicated business banking relationship management team at Huntington, where his roles included business banking area manager in Northwest Ohio and Central Ohio. He previously held positions at Key Bank and Fifth Third Bank in Northwest Ohio.

Grasshopper Bank Taps Shure as Global Head/Early-Stage Practice

Grasshopper Bank has appointed Jeremy Shure as its global head of Early Stage Practice. Shure will lead the bank’s work with early-stage founders and their companies, and its engagement with constituents across the innovation economy. He will help to define and execute on the bank’s mission to deliver a best-in-class banking experience for founders and funds as well as its engagement with constituents across the innovation economy. 

Capital One Adds Schmill to Gov’t Contracting Banking Team

Larry Schmill has joined Capital One’s Government Contracting Banking Group as a managing director, Aerospace, Defense and Government Services, based in Los Angeles. He will report to Diane Zanetti, government contracting section manager at Capital One Commercial Banking.

Voynov Joins J.P. Morgan Corporate Client Banking Team

Ivo Voynov has joined J.P. Morgan’s Corporate Client Banking and Specialized Industries business within Commercial Banking as an executive director for the Northeast group. With more than 13 years of experience in banking, investing and trading, Voynov previously served as a senior vice president for Houlihan Lokey’s Technology, Media and Telecom Group. Prior to that, he was a director for Mergers and Acquisitions at Rothschild, within the Technology, Media & Telecom Group.

Hercules Capital Taps Bluestein as President/CEO

Hercules Capital has appointed Scott Bluestein as its chief executive officer and president, effective immediately. Bluestein, who has held several leadership roles in his nine years with the company, has served as Hercules’ interim CEO since March 2019 and as chief investment officer since 2014. From 2010 through 2013, Bluestein served as the company’s chief credit officer. He has also been elected to Hercules’ board of directors.

Bridge Bank Expands to Chicago, Taps Dammeyer as NE Region Leader

Bridge Bank hired Ryan Dammeyer as region leader in its Technology Banking group. Ryan joins Bridge Bank with more 20 years of experience. Most recently, he was head of the structured finance group for Square 1 Bank, a division of Pacific Western Bank, which focused on the bank’s largest and most complex relationships. Prior to that he founded the Midwest office for Square 1 Bank. Earlier in his career, Ryan held various leadership and business development roles at Silicon Valley Bank.

Ohnmacht Joins Woodsboro Bank as Chief Lending Officer

Richard Ohnmacht has joined Woodsboro Bank as a senior vice president, chief lending officer. He will lead the commercial banking and business development functions. Ohnmacht has more than 28 years of experience in the financial industry. Over the course of his career, he worked in various roles in commercial banking with F&M Bank, Mercantile/Citizens National Bank, PNC and Bay Bank.

BofA Capital Promotes Benefield to National Marketing Manager

Bank of America Capital promoted Seth Benefield to the position of national marketing manager. Benefield, a frequent participant in ABF Journal lender roundtables, will oversee a team of business development officers who provide asset-based solutions and banking products to large and middle market companies, intermediates and financial sponsors across the U.S. and Europe.

Hebert, Adams Join Wells Fargo Corporate & Investment Banking

Mark Hebert and Justin Adams have joined Wells Fargo Corporate & Investment Banking. Hebert has joined as managing director and head of High Grade Trading. Adams has joined the Credit Sales team as a managing director.
