Encina Builds Up Regional Teams with Two Hires, One Promotion
Industry veteran Matt Grimes joined Encina Business Credit as senior managing director, West Region leader, while Dave Braff came on board as managing director to lead business development efforts primarily in Northern California. The company concurrently promoted Tron Allen to senior managing director, Central Region leader.
Grimes will be based in Los Angeles and report to Chief Commercial Officer Rob McMahon. He will be responsible for scaling the company’s business development efforts west of Texas and hiring a senior business development executive in Los Angeles with responsibility for Southern California.
Braff will be based in San Francisco and report to Grimes, while Allen will remain in Houston and report to McMahon. Allen will also be responsible for overseeing the company’s existing business development executives in Chicago, Detroit and Tulsa, while building out the Central Region.
Grimes most recently served as the West Region manager for Ares Commercial Finance and previously held senior business development roles at First Capital, GoldenTree Asset Management, Tennenbaum Capital Partners and Congress Financial. He also spent a few years as a restructuring advisor at CRG Partners.
Braff previously served as principal, Business Development at Ares and has held business development roles at First Capital, Sovereign Bank, GE Capital and Union Bank, among other institutions.
Pearce Joins North Mill Capital as SVP
Kevin Pearce joined North Mill Capital as SVP. He will be responsible for business development. Pearce brings over 30 years of experience in asset-based lending, commercial finance and specialty lending to North Mill Capital. He has covered the Southwest region for over a decade.
White Oak Hires Apicella as SVP/Sr. BDO
Carol Apicella joined White Oak Business Capital as SVP and senior business development officer. Apicella will be responsible for expanding the firm’s markets in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
BMO Launches New Financial Crimes Unit Led by Zelvin
BMO Financial Group has created a new Financial Crimes Unit and has hired Larry Zelvin to lead it. Zelvin will report to Steve Tennyson, BMO chief technology and operations officer, and be responsible for defining and executing strategy, mobilizing stakeholders and working in full coordination with businesses across the bank.
Rise Line Appoints Martin Senior Managing Director of Credit
Rise Line Business Credit appointed Senior Advisor Paul Martin to a full-time position as senior managing director of Credit. Since inception, Martin has worked closely with Rise Line’s credit department and executive team. He previously served in various positions at NewStar Business Credit, First Horizon Home Loans and HSBC Bank.
Krakora Joins Getzler Henrich as Managing Director
Kevin A. Krakora joined Getzler Henrich as managing director based in Chicago. Krakora has served as an advisor to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in several high profile bankruptcies, including American Airlines, North American Petroleum Corporation USA, Pappas Telecasting Companies and United Airlines.
Wells Fargo Hires Scammahorn as Chief Auditor
Wells Fargo named Julie Scammahorn as its new chief auditor. Scammahorn will be based in San Francisco and report to CEO and President Tim Sloan and to the Audit and Examination Committee of the board of directors. She most recently served at Citigroup as chief auditor of Citibank.
PNC Adds Three New Members to Board of Directors
PNC Financial Services appointed Joseph Alvarado, Richard Harshman and Toni Townes-Whitley to its board of directors. Alvarado is the former chairman, president and CEO of Commercial Metals Company. Harshman is the current chairman and former president and CEO of Allegheny Technologies. Townes-Whitley is president, U.S. Regulated Industries at tech giant Microsoft.
Wells Fargo Brings Aboard JPMorgan Vet as New Head of Technology
Wells Fargo named Saul Van Beurden head of Technology, a new role the company created in October 2018. Van Beurden will be based in New York and report directly to CEO and President Tim Sloan. He will also join the company’s Operating Committee as an executive officer.
Crestmark Welcomes Koran as VP/BDO East Division
Crestmark appointed David Koran VP, business development officer for the East Division. Based in North Carolina, he will report to SVP, East Division Sales Manager James Farrell. Koran most recently served as managing director of capital finance with International Risk Consultants. He previously held positions at First Capital and TAB Bank.
Siciliano Joins CAN Capital as CEO
Specialty finance company CAN Capital hired Edward J. Siciliano as CEO. Siciliano joins CAN Capital from Marlin Business Services, where he served in various roles including chief operating officer, interim CEO and EVP and chief sales officer. During that time, he was responsible for turning around Marlin post-financial crisis by rebuilding its sales force (see story pg. 28).
Bibby Appoints Ciccolo Managing Director of Factoring & ABL
Bibby Financial Services brought on board David Ciccolo as its new managing director for its U.S. Factoring & Asset Based Lending business based in Atlanta. Ciccolo previously worked at Wells Fargo Capital Finance, most recently as the EVP/national sales manager of Commercial Services. Prior to that role, he held the title of EVP/national manager of A/R and P/O Financing.
Austin Financial Hires Three in Portfolio Management & Operations
Austin Financial hired three new members for its Portfolio Management and Operations division. Trevor Longsworth joined the company as VP/auditor, while Esther Nuevas and Marilyn Barnes joined as senior collateral analysts in the Los Angeles office.
Hewett Joins Wells Fargo Board of Directors
Wayne M. Hewett was elected to the Wells Fargo board of directors where he will serve on the Human Resources and Risk Committees. Hewett is currently chairman of DiversiTech, a manufacturer and supplier of components for the heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration industry, and serves on the Home Depot board of directors.
